Best & Worst Television Network Websites

Television is still one of the most powerful media outlets today despite the increasing popularity of the Internet. How do the networks represent themselves online? At the best, ESPN and CNN represent the best destination for their type of specialty for both television and the web… and at the worst, MTV and BET are leaders in youth culture yet are not very provocative in their websites. Here are 20 very popular network websites that I categorized into Best, Average and Worst:

BEST

The one common factor of all these websites is that they should make you excited about the programming for that network. As usual, the more innovative, usable and aesthetically pleasing along the way the better. I think these are the best:

FX has a unique layout while clearly highlighting their unique programming.

En Fuego! Best & Worst NBA Websites

NBA teams have a license to ill when it comes to their websites because they want to keep you excited, informed and motivated to go see the games either in person or on TV. However, only some are En Fuego, most are either a satisfactory Aight or worse of all complete Scrubs. The Miami Heat website is the worse of all. I suspect they hired one of their cheerleaders to moonlight on it.

These teams have the best blend of creativity, visual excitement and uniqueness that make them stand above the rest. The NY Knicks for example just give off a “Heart of NY” feel to it that I think all the other cities should try to capture.
